A brand wordmark is the typographic part of any logo, or a font based logo without a symbol, icon or illustration. Some brands choose to have an identity which is centred on typography, and this is called a wordmark. The Coca-Cola logo is an example of a wordmark. As a typographer and type designer, I seek typographic solutions to all design briefs and have designed dozens of commercial wordmarks for retail products and corporate brands. We’ve worked on projects across Australia in Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide and Sydney.
The benefit of a type-based brand identity is simplicity. It says what it is. And the style of typography chosen can communicate a subtly targeted tone of voice which is perfect for motivating customers.
Wordmark Development
As with any brand project, I will meet with the client to discuss options and show examples, before beginning to sketch some concepts. I like my clients to be central in the process, often showing my raw sketches in an unpolished state – if the idea comes through strongly in raw form, then it will be successful when polished. Our brand wordmark services include consultation, research, concepts, design and supply of the finished wordmark in various file formats.
