Casual Letters with a Brush Pen

Do you love looking at those online videos of old sign painters creating cool lettering? Now you can learn how it’s constructed and do it yourself, using nothing more than a brush pen.

Sign Casuals is a lettering style with lots of tradition but also lots of flexibility. At this workshop you’ll learn the basics of letter construction, methods of creating pen strokes for lively letters, along with techniques for shadowing and embellishment. You’ll also take home some alphabet sample worksheets for practice.

Suitable For

This class is designed for participants who have a professional or personal interest in typography, art or design, who would like to improve their lettering skills. Beginners and professionals are welcome, it’s all about learning!

What to bring

Lettering materials will be provided. Cost includes a brush pen, paper and worksheets. If you have your own preferred brushpens, please bring them along!

Bring your own lunch. Pumphouse provides bottomless coffee, tea, cold water and biscuits. There is also excellent coffee and food right next door at Dark Horse Espresso. There is plenty of free street parking. Pumphouse is short walk from the Newcastle Rail Interchange.
